AN EXCITING ADVANCE IN PERIODONTAL (GUM) CARE
DR. HENDLIN INTRODUCES LASER PERIODONTAL TREATMENT

We are constantly striving to offer the most advanced level of care for our patients. In that effort our Hygienists have recently added a new periodontal treatment available in addition to your routine cleaning care that fights periodontal disease.

APPROXIMATELY 80% OF ADULTS ARE AFFECTED BY PERIODONTAL DISEASE AND IT IS A GROWING PROBLEM.

Our understanding of this disease has increased greatly in the last few years and new treatments are evolving as a result. We now know that gum disease results from a bacterial infection in the pockets around teeth. As a result in addition to removing mechanical irritants and diseased tissue (your conventional cleaning) we can now add bactericidal treatment with our laser and address the underlying infection causing the disease!!!!!!

THESE ARE WHY WE WILL BE NOW OFFERING LASER BACTERIAL DECONTAMINATION IN ADDITION TO YOUR REGULAR CLEANINGS

  1. TO REDUCE OR ELIMINATE BACTERIA – During the normal cleaning process most patients will have some bleeding. This allows some bacteria that are present in the mouth to pass into the body where they may settle in weakened areas of the body such as a damaged heart valve, artificial knee or hip etc. We may ask patients with these conditions to pre-medicate with antibiotics so these patients won’t be harmed by the bacterial invasion. The latest research shows that these oral pathogens have now been linked to other diseases such as cardiovascular disease, rheumatoid arthritis, low birthweight babies, diabetes etc. ANYTHING THAT WE CAN DO TO REDUCE OR ELIMINATE THESE BACTEREMIAS IS GOOD FOR YOU!
  2. TO PREVENT CROSS CONTAMINATION of infections in one area of your mouth to other areas. Decontamination minimizes the chance that we may inadvertently pick up bacterial infection in one area and move it to others.
  3. TO KILL THE PERIODONTAL DISEASE BACTERIA and stop the infections before they cause physical destruction or loss of physical attachment around the teeth

The laser decontamination process is painless and normally takes about 5-10 min. We highly recommend that you take advantage of this service as part of your routine cleaning.

Laser decontamination is $25 and IS NOT covered by your health insurance

Unfortunately insurance coverage always seems to lag behind the leading edge in high tech healthcare.
Please ask the Hygienist if you have any questions regarding this treatment.
